Sustainability is a key priority for the companies within KS Industries. To address this in a structured and professional way, KS Industries works with the CO₂ Performance Ladder. The CO₂ Performance Ladder is a Dutch sustainability tool that helps organizations—including businesses and government bodies—reduce CO₂ emissions and costs in their operations, projects, and supply chains.
The CO2-Performance Ladder is a Dutch sustainability tool that helps organizations—including companies and government bodies—reduce their CO2-emissions and operating costs across their operations, projects, and supply chains. Originally introduced by ProRail in 2009, the Ladder has been managed since 2011 by the Foundation for Climate-Friendly Procurement and Business (Stichting Klimaatvriendelijk Aanbesteden en Ondernemen). It functions both as a CO2-management system and a procurement tool. Certification through the CO2-Performance Ladder offers immediate financial benefits, such as lower energy bills and material savings, as well as gains through innovation. At KS Industries, we are working hard to align our CO2-policy with the framework of the CO2-Performance Ladder.
Reducing CO2 Emissions with the CO2-Performance Ladder
The CO2-Performance Ladder is built around four key focus areas that guide our efforts:
A. Insight – Establishing a verified CO2- footprint in accordance with the ISO 14064-1 standard, to gain a clear understanding of the emissions produced by the KS Industries companies.
B. CO2-Reduction – Demonstrating the commitment of KS Industries to actively reduce its CO2-emissions.
C. Transparency – Ensuring open and consistent internal and external communication about our CO2-footprint and reduction targets.
D. Participation – Taking part in sector-wide or supply chain initiatives aimed at reducing CO2-emissions.
Each focus area is divided into five levels. An accredited certification body evaluates our actions and determines our position on the CO2-Performance Ladder. To progress, we must show measurable steps across all four areas.
Awareness and Communication
The CO2-Performance Ladder truly comes to life when plans are visibly put into action and communicated clearly to both internal and external stakeholders. At KS Industries, we aim to genuinely involve our employees in sustainability initiatives. We encourage them to contribute ideas—both solicited and unsolicited—and to take active part in the process. We also hope they share their enthusiasm and pride in these efforts within their personal and professional networks.
KS Industries aspires to be a driving force for sustainability within its supply chain. That’s why we actively inform our customers and suppliers about the impact of CO2-emissions and the importance of reducing them. By sharing the measures we’ve implemented and the CO2-reductions we’ve achieved, we hope to inspire others to take meaningful steps toward lowering their own emissions.
To support impactful and structured communication, a dedicated communication plan has been developed. This plan helps us communicate our CO₂-reduction goals and the progress of our CO₂-reduction program in a clear and consistent way.
